Seeds for Success
Co-founders Ned Hayes and Kira Cleveland launched the Institute in 2023 when they saw creative colleagues and friends dismayed by the advent of generated synthetic content. The credibility and income of artists and writers we respect is eroding under the onslaught of synthetic extruded content that mimics genuine human creativity. In 2024, we went public with certification marks to help creatives fight back and reclaim their agency. In 2025, we moved into certifying human works and human processes.
Our first verified human creator was novelist Ben Parzybok, based in Portland Oregon (verified by Ron Sim). Our first verified publication was Pacific Northwest arts journal OLY ARTS, based in Olympia, Washington. Today, our entire team is verified human creators.

We exist to help you preserve credit, protect your intellectual property rights, and proclaim the continuing meaning and value of your work.

Playing the Long Game
Copyright, trademark and patent law has long protected the work of creative people. We employ these laws to help you. We pursue legal remedies because we believe, over time, legal protections will accrue to human creators. For example, our Humanright™ mark is a foothold in the fight to secure greater rights for human creators.
Reversing the disastrous effects generative AI has taken on artists is a long game: Establishing your identity early as a genuine human creator will help your audience value you as an artist. Establishing ownership and provenance of your work will add further value and increased legal protection against machine ingestion, reuse, and extrusion of your ideas. As we build on our toolset, a veritable warchest of legal protection will help you preserve your rights and proclaim your value.
