The authenticity of every image you see will soon be in question because AI makes it increasingly impossible for the human eye to distinguish real images from AI-generated ones. 

That’s according to Instagram chief Adam Mosseri’s recent post, wherein he posits that technology is needed to establish “a chain of custody” that proves images come from actual humans.

We agree.

The Writing on the (Virtual) Wall

In late 2022, with the emergence of the first commercial chatbot, the founders of Human Intelligence (Ned Hayes and I) saw the AI tsunami coming. Deeply experienced with machine learning and NLP models, we were arguably better versed than most in foreseeing the ubiquitous adoption by individuals and industries, as well as the probable (and adverse) ramifications to human creators. 

By early 2024, we’d honed our thesis: AI-generated slop will soon flood the world, and only a rigorous, technologically-sound system can serve as a bulwark to protect human creativity.

We were met with doubters, of course – both AI industry wonks and future-casting wannabes fervently proclaimed that AI-generated content would always be detectable by human beings. We were labeled Luddites. Anti-progress. Scaredy cats.

We smiled and disagreed and continued to work on a paradigm-shifting architecture: a system with patents, trade secrets, and legal frameworks that would stand the test of time and serve as the foundation for a world where human content remains uniquely identifiable and uniquely valuable.

The Human Intelligence® Solution

In mid-2025, two things happened. 

First, AI systems began to generate synthetic content that could not be detected either by the human eye or by any AI-detector system on the planet.

Second, Human Intelligence delivered a test case proving our system could allow for true authentication of human-made content at scale. We began to verify creators who want to preserve the value of their creative works and protect their IP.

Only a few months later we have more than 1,000 individual creators who use our system to certify their works. We’ve recently expanded to also serve businesses and institutions.

What Mosseri pointed out – that it’s impossible to identify AI-generated works in any meaningful manner after it’s out in the wild – is true. But only if you’re using your naked eye or a faulty AI-detection system that only looks at the final artifact.

He also said that it would be wise to identify authentic human-made content at the jump, rather than trying to prove it after it’s loose in the world. 

We heartily agree. This has been our thesis since the day we filed our first provisional patent in early 2024.
